About Me.

My name is Austin Mora and I have local priorities. I'm a lifelong resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, a graduate of Dutchess Commuity College, and an Exercise Science student at Mount Saint Mary College. I started my career in landscaping which gave me a sincere appreciation for the natural beauty of our city. I currently work in public safety as a lifeguard at Spratt Park pool. The daily conversations I have with my neighbors, at work and around the city, have inspired me to run to represent the 8th ward on the Common Council. Listening to their concerns, from crumbling infrastructure, to the high cost of living, I know we can do better. I love the City of Poughkeepsie, and I promise that together we can work toward realizing the true potential that our city holds. I am an NOP, not registered to a party, and will be a bipartisan voice prioritizing Poughkeepsie Over Politics. My campaign is funded by Poughkeepsie, for Poughkeepsie.

My Platform

Public Safety and Reducing Speeding

Our police department is dangerously understaffed and unfunded. I'll have more police patrolling the 8th ward to cut down on speeding cars. I will also increase pedestrian safety through enhanced street lighting.

Maintain and Improve Our Infrastructure

Our roads, especially Hooker and South Grand, need repaving. I will make sure our streets stay paved and maintain proper striping. I'll work with the county and state to secure grants to replace lead water pipes.

Revitalize Spratt Park Pool

Government Transparency and Listening to My Neighbors

As taxpayers, we deserve to know what is going on in City Hall. As councilimember, I'll hold ward meetings and pledge to be available for question or comments at any time. I will never stop working for you.

Collaborative Leadership

Partisan politics holds us back. I'm willing to work with anyone- Democrat or Republican- to bring essential progress to the 8th Ward. Only by working together can we realize significant improvement.

Efficient Use of Taxes and Prioritizing Poughkeepsie

Rejuvinate Business in Poughkeepsie

High-taxes, rampant crime, and crumbling infrastructure are roadblocks to local enterprise. We need to fix these issues so EVERYONE in the City of Poughkeepsie can enjoy the prosperity of a booming local economy.

As council-member I will fight everyday to hold the line on property taxes and to prevent new tax hikes. I will make sure that Poughkeepsie's taxes are spent improving Poughkeepsie.

I've spent my life and made wonderful memories at Spratt Park Pool. As council-member I will ensure Spratt Poll is fully staffed, that the grounds are maintained, and I will take on cleaning up the Splash Pad for our kids to enjoy.
